He’s Back. David Lee Roth Comes Out Of Retirement After 2 Days
On Friday, former Van Halen frontman David Lee Roth announced his retirement. Roth stated that he is hanging up his spandex and riding off into the sunset. Just 2 days later, Roth has retracted that statement and declared that he will carry on until they drag him off the stage.
Throwing in the Shoes!?
“I am throwing in the shoes. I’m retiring,” Roth said in a phone conversation on Friday. “This is the first, and only, official announcement. … You’ve got the news. Share it with the world.”
Throwing in the shoes? Wtf is that? Throwing in the towel or maybe hanging up the shoes. We think Dave got his sayings mixed up. A bird in the hand saves nine. If you are making a stunning retirement announcement, maybe you should think it through. Maybe practice it in the mirror first or write it down.
Diamond Dave announced he is ending his career with his five shows at House of Blues at Mandalay Bay on New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day, Jan. 5 and Jan. 7-8. “These are my last five shows.”
Changing Tune
Things changed however and on Monday Dave was changing his tune. “Yeah about that retirement thing, well you can forget that” Tweeted Dave. “I have had such a positive response and the tickets to my shows sold out. Alex Van Halen agreed to play drums with me. Things are looking up, so I decided to cancel the retirement for now. However, I will pull the retirement card out again whenever I need it. For chrissakes, Elton John has retired over 100 times in his career. Therefore I figure I got about 99 more retirement announcements to go.”
“I didn’t enjoy being retired” said Dave. “I wandered around my house, took up golf, pinochle, bingo, watched Matlock and went for a few walks. It wasn’t that exciting. Performing and banging groupies is actually a lot more fun. Who Knew?”
