Wife Sells $4.5 Million Kurt Cobain Guitar At Yard Sale For $25

Wife Sells $4.5 Million Kurt Cobain Guitar At Yard Sale For $25

Brenda Lambourne of Indianapolis unwittingly sold one of her husband’s guitars at a yard sale for $25. The problem is, her husband recently purchased the guitar at auction for $4.5 million. The guitar once belonged to Kurt Cobain.

The guitar in question is a 1969 Fender Mustang electric guitar that belonged to Kurt Cobain. The mythical guitar was used in Nirvana’s landmark 1991 music video, “Smells Like Teen Spirit” and on most of their recordings and live performances.

$4.5 Million

Bernard Lambourne was in a bidding war with collectors from all over the world, but he came out the victor. The final selling price was $4.5 million, far surpassing the original estimate of $600,000.  “I love Nirvana man” said Bernard. “Kurt was my hero. I cried when he died, I just knew I had to have this guitar, it is a piece of history and I was going all in. But of course my wife would have killed me if she knew I spent all of our money on a guitar. So when I got home I told her it was just a regular beat up old guitar that my friend Tommy gave me. She has no idea about guitars or music. Her favorite band of the 90s was the Spice Girls.”

It Looked Like a Piece of Junk

So as Brenda was looking for items to sell at the yearly town wide yard sale, she came across this beat up old guitar. “It looked like a piece of junk” said Brenda. “It was all scratched up and beat up. He has like 500 guitars and they all look the same to me. How many guitars does one man need. You can only play one at a time. How was I supposed to know it was worth $4.5 million? My husband is a complete idiot.”

The guitar was purchased for $25 by Bernard DeSchepper. “I had no idea the guitar belonged to Kurt Cobain” said DeSchepper. “It was extreme good fortune. I was debating on buying the guitar or the George Foreman grill. Then something told me I should buy the guitar. I just thought it was a cool guitar for $25.”

DeSchepper was pleasantly surprised when he saw the story on the news. “I just made a profit of $4,499,975.00” giggled DeSchepper. “Not bad for a days work. Mr. Lambourne rang me up and begged me to return the guitar. He was crying. I felt bad for the man but he ain’t getting $shit back. It’s mine all mine.”

1969 Fender Mustang

Cobain considered this 1969 Fender Mustang, left-handed guitar in “competition lake placid blue” finish with matching headstock one of his favorite go-to guitars and said in his final interview with Guitar World: “I’m left-handed, and it’s not very easy to find reasonably priced, high-quality left-handed guitars. But out of all the guitars in the whole world, the Fender Mustang is my favorite. I sure hope that someday a guy buys the guitar at auction for $4.5 million and his wife sells it at a yard sale for $25. That would be really funny.”
