Ted Nugent and Bon Jovi to Star in New Odd Couple on CBS
The Odd Couple has seen many iterations over the last several decades. Starting out as a Neil Simon play in 1965, the show went on to become a hit movie in ’68. The movie starred Walter Matthau as Oscar Madison and Jack Lemon as Felix Unger.
From there, The Odd Couple was adapted several times into a TV series. Most notably the 1970 version, starring Jack Klugman as Oscar and Tony Randall as Felix, which ran for five seasons. There was a black Odd Couple with Ron Glass and Demond Wilson, an Asian Odd Couple and a terrible remake in 2015. Now, CBS has rebooted the property once again, with Ted Nugent and Jon Bon Jovi playing Oscar and Felix, respectively.
The basic premise of the show remains the same. After being kicked out of their houses by their wives, two friends try to share an apartment. Their ideas of housekeeping and lifestyles are as different as night and day. For the new series, Oscar is a hunting, gun loving, meat eating, conservative and Felix is a vegan, gender fluid, liberal. Hilarity ensues as the duo battles over topics of the day.
The New Odd Couple
In the pilot episode, Felix and Oscar fight over pronouns and which bathroom to use. Coming home early from a hunting trip, Oscar walks in on Felix and his PETA meeting. Oscar walks in covered in blood, carrying a deer carcass and drops it on the table. The PETA members flee from the apartment in horror. Felix bursts into tears, has a sinus attack and runs off to his safe space.
Murray the Cop is now Murray the Social Worker and will be played by Nathan Lane. Replacing the Pigeon Sisters, Oscar and Felix will now have a lesbian couple as neighbors. They will be played by Rosie O’Donnell and Jane Lynch.
