Steve Perry Hurls Racial Insults at New Journey Singer!
2017 started out to be a big year for the band Journey. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announced that Journey will be inducted into the Hall this year.
The band and original frontman Steve Perry, parted ways 20 years ago and have not had much contact since. With the news of the Hall of Fame induction, Journey and Steve Perry sat down to discuss a possible reunion. The talks did not go well at all, as a clearly intoxicated Steve Perry started making racially insensitive jokes at the expense of new singer Arnel Pineda.
First Perry came out wearing a Chinese waiter costume, complete with round horned glasses and buck teeth singing to Pineda, “Me Chinese, Me Play Joke, Me Put Pee Pee in Your Coke”. Pineda explained that he is Filipino and not Chinese, but the belligerent Perry, did not hear it as he broke into song with “Don’t Stop Berieving”. This was obviously Perry’s attempt to belittle the way Pineda sings the Journey Hit “Don’t Stop Believing”. The final straw came as Perry started in again with his bad Asian accent saying “Confucius say, He who go to bed with itchy behind, wake up with smelly finger”.
Guitarist Neal Schon had enough and wrestled Perry to the ground. No word on whether or not the band will continue with its plan to reunite for a song at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction in April.
