Rush to Perform at MTV VMAs with DJ Khaled
Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 MTV VMAs will take place – audience free – at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on August 30th. The event will feature “epic performances from various iconic locations” across all five boroughs in New York City.”
Rock legends Rush will make their first live performance since drummer Neil Peart passed away last year. In lieu of a drummer, the surviving members, Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson will be joined by DJ Khaled as a human beatbox. Khaled will hold the beat down with his mouth and will randomly yell out his name during the Rush classic ‘Tom Sawyer’.
“After Neil passed, we never imagined we would replace him with another drummer” said Geddy Lee. “No other drummer could hold a candle to Neil, so we never wanted to do that. But a human beatbox is a very out of the box way to honor Neil’s memory. He would have loved this.”
In addition to ‘Tom Sawyer”, the trio will also perform the Rush 9+ minute instrumental epic, ’La Villa Strangiato’. DJ Khaled will perform all drum parts on his mouth for this 12 part magnum opus. “I am looking forward to the challenge” said DJ Khaled, “I have been hearing that Neil Peart was a great drummer, but I am confident that I can beat box anything he can play. Being a human beatbox takes much more skill than being a drummer.”
Other performances include: ’DaBaby’ will perform from atop the Empire State Building. He will dangle off the side as he performs his hit “BOP”. Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande will perform live from the Lion cage at The Bronx Zoo. The duo will perform their hit song “Stuck With U”.
Despite a 6 month lockdown and essential needs like church services being forbidden, and many small businesses forced to go out of business, NY Governor Andrew Cuomo and NYC Mayor Bill DeBlasio have declared that the world needs the MTV VMAs. “You cannot get more essential than an awards show” declared Cuomo. DeBlasio chimed in, “Yes stop whining that you lost your businesses and your freedoms while we let the city burn and crime skyrocket. We are giving you ‘Megan Thee Stallion’ & ‘Roddy Ricch’. I think that more than makes up for any inconveniences.”
I’ve heard that “The Black Guy From Police Academy”, Michael Winslow, will be on Zoom, from the Holland Tunnel, performing the ‘Introduction‘ of the “2112” ‘Overture’.
I know a young man that can play Neil Peart. He practiced daily with Rush. He is the best drummer around . Adrian Paige. Is your man. Neil would be surprisingly happy.
The “humor” on this website seems like it was written by a bunch of untalented 12 year olds.
Mean, juvenile and just not funny.
Sounds Cool…
I’m willing to give it a try. It’s new and different and it sounds like something Neil would have liked or found interesting at the very least. Please tell me Khalid is not going to randomly shout his name through their songs like his other guest appearances.
