Rolling Stones Perform Surprise Lunch Time Gig at Ray’s Pizza NYC
The Rolling Stones delighted passersby on the streets of New York City today by performing a surprise pop up gig at Ray’s Pizza. This was just a mere 12 hours after The Stones performed another intimate, invite only gig at a small venue, “Racket”. The occasion was the release of their first album in many years, “Hackney Diamonds”.
New Yorkers got more than they bargained for when the legendary Rolling Stones rolled into Ray’s Pizza. This surprise lunchtime gig had everyone saying, “Hey, maybe you can always get what you want!” Picture this: A rainy Friday and You’re on your lunch break. You are browsing Ray’s Pizza menu, trying to decide if you want pepperoni or sausage on your slice. When suddenly, a rock ‘n roll cyclone sweeps through the door and nearly knocks the pepperoni right off your pizza! It’s none other than Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood ready to deliver a pizza-sized portion of rock history.
A Rolling Stones Surprise Gig
The band performed 7 songs including a few surprise guests, Lady Gaga, Stevie Wonder and Paul McCartney. In between songs, Mick, Keith and Ronnie were making pies and dealing with customers. Keith Richards mocked Paul McCartney for ordering Pineapple on his pizza and then eating it with a knife and fork. “Go get your shine box you vegan” joked Keith. Stevie Wonder and Lady Gaga shared a plate of “Gabagool” and a bottle of wine.
The show almost didn’t go off as Mick, Keith and Ronnie all showed up to different Ray’s Pizza locations. There are over 300 Ray’s Pizza Places in New York City. There is Ray’s Pizza, Famous Ray’s Pizza, Original Ray’s Pizza, Famous Original Ray’s Pizza, Original Famous Ray’s Pizza and many other variations. Eventually the boys took an Uber to the correct location near Times Square. “We should have just gone to Katz’s Deli like I wanted to” said Ronnie Wood. “I love the Pastrami on Rye and Dr. Brown’s Cream Soda. Plus the Knishes are to die for.”
That’s What Makes Our Town The Best
The Stones kicked off the show with the greatest song ever written about New York City, “Shattered”. “Pride and joy and greed and sex, that’s what makes our town the best, Shadoobee.” McCartney joined the band for “Bite My Head Off” and Stevie and Gaga stepped up for the showstopper, “Sweet Sounds of Heaven”.
Traffic was snarled for miles, fans were running wild in the streets and people were so choked up they were wiping their tears with slices of Pizza. “This is the greatest day of my life” said Stones fan, Sean Robertson. “Sure I got married and witnessed the birth of my three children, but that all pales in comparison to eating a slice of pizza while watching the Rolling Stones performing three feet away from me.”
