Roger Daltrey “accidentally” smashed guitarist Pete Townshend right on the nose with his infamous swinging microphone. The legendary rockers, The Who were performing at the iconic Royal Albert Hall in London when the tragic yet comical event took place.

The incident occurred during the climax of their set, just as Daltrey unleashed his signature microphone twirl. Little did he know, Townshend was in the trajectory, innocently strumming away on his guitar. It was a moment that could only be described as the rock ‘n’ roll equivalent of a Three Stooges routine.

As Daltrey’s microphone swung through the air with the grace of a wrecking ball, it found its target – Townshend’s unsuspecting schnoz. The unmistakable sound of “thwack” echoed through the hall, followed by a collective gasp from the audience. The only thing missing was a cartoonish “Boink!” sound effect.

“I was swinging the mic and the loop got bigger and bigger. Eventually it slipped right out of my hand. It hit Pete smack, bang, wallop on the nose,” Daltrey says whilst trying to hide his laughter. “He does have a big honker, it would be hard to miss that thing. Honestly I am surprised this didn’t happen years ago.”

Townshend was quite miffed but managed to continue the show. Pete retaliated backstage after the concert by whacking Daltrey on the head with a frying pan. He then poked Roger in the eyes. “I warned that wanker a million times to keep that mic away from me.” Yelled Townshend. “For years he has come close many times but he never hit me before.”

There is speculation that this was no accident. Daltrey and Townshend have had a turbulent relationship over the years. Many believe Roger was biding his time and waiting for the most opportune time to whack Pete on his schnoz. Who Fan Philip Wookey commented, “Roger is a marksmen with that microphone. He wields it like a major league pitcher and has pinpoint control. That was no accident my friend, it was a long time coming.”
