Roger Daltrey Pranks Pete Townshend Disguised As Crazed Grinch
Roger Daltrey pulled the ultimate prank on his band mate Peter Townshend. Daltrey donned a bloody Grinch costume and pretended to be a crazed fan. Roger banged on Pete’s door at 6AM. Pete opened the door to see a furry green freak armed with a meat clever. The prank scared Townshend so badly that he ended up smashing a guitar over Daltrey’s head.
Roger came up with the idea after watching the Grinch cartoon with his family. “I realized that Pete was a lot like the Grinch. They are both grumpy yet lovable characters. Pete resembles the Grinch a bit as well. At this point I decided I was going to prank Pete. Something really scary that would make him soil his knickers.”
The Grinch Vs Pete Townshend
Armed with a green furry suit, a Santa hat two sizes too small, and a mischievous twinkle in his eye, Daltrey transformed into a rock ‘n’ roll version of Dr. Seuss’ iconic character. The plan was simple but effective: to steal Townshend’s holiday cheer in the most whimsical way possible. And to scare Peter half to death. Roger enlisted his family to assist.
The Daltrey family rolled up to Townshend’s residence at 6AM sharp in an unmarked van. Roger got into costume and went to the door as the family stayed behind to film the entire incident. Daltrey looked insane in a cheesy Grinch costume and carrying a meat cleaver dripping blood. Roger began banging loudly and aggressively on Pete’s door. Pete was shocked awake and answered the door in his bath robe. As he did not tie his robe carefully, little Pete was poking his head out as well.
“What in the world is this” yelled Pete at the man in the Grinch costume. Roger yelled back “I am the Grinch and I am here to take everything from Whoville. Is this WhoVille?” Pete replied “Very funny you jerk now get out of here before I ring for the police.” At this point Daltrey pulled out the bloody meat clever and waved it menacingly at Pete. “Where is the Roast Beast and the Who Hash?”
Never Mind The Bollocks
Basically Townhend was scared silly at this point and may have soiled his knickers a bit. However, as a reaction he grabbed an acoustic guitar from behind the door and bashed it over Daltrey’s head. The guitar was splintered into a thousand pieces. Pete jumped on Roger wrestling him to the ground and pulled the Grinch mask off. When Pete realized it was his lead singer pulling a prank on him, Pete gave Roger a good swift kick in the bollocks. The two old buddies then had a good laugh. The tale of Roger Daltrey’s Grinchy prank on Pete Townshend will go down in history as a legendary holiday memory for The Who and their fans alike.
