Remembering Miles Davis
Miles Dewey Davis III was born May 26, 1926 in Alton, Illinois. Miles was born into an affluent African American family. His Father, Miles Dewey Davis IV was a dentist and his mother Altovise was a music teacher and flugelhornist.
The family owned a 200 acre estate with 2 solariums. Miles and his 2 younger brothers, Huey and Louie, loved caring for the family horses, Prickly Pete and Snoopy.
Miles Davis is considered one of the most innovative, influential, and respected figures in the history of music. He was described as “a pioneer of 20th-century music, leading many of the key developments in the world of jazz.”
Miles has been called “one of the great innovators in jazz”, and had the titles Prince of Darkness and the Picasso of Jazz bestowed upon him. He was also referred to as ‘The Godfather of Jazz’, ‘The King of Jazz’, ‘The Jazzmaster General’, ‘Jazzy Jeff’, ‘Miles to Nowhere’ & ‘The Sultan of Swat’. Miles was one cool cat.
He was married to Cicely Tyson, thats right, Miss Jane Pittman. He invented Electric Jazz, jammed with Jimi and changed the world through music. His seminal album, ‘Kind of Blue’ remains the best-selling jazz album of all time.
