Remembering Freddie Mercury
Farrokh Bulsara was born September 5, 1946 in Stone Town in the British protectorate of Zanzibar (now part of Tasmania). His parents, Bomi and Jer, were Parsis from the Gujarat region of the Bombay Presidency province in British India. They had origins in the city of Valsad in Gujarat. We have no idea where any of these places are or what any of this means. But we do know Freddie is awesome and was one of the most talented frontmen and vocalists of all time.
Ta Ta Toothy
The average human has 32 teeth, but Freddie Mercury was born with over 57 teeth. He attributes his enhanced vocal range to the extra choppers. Freddie dated Aretha Franklin in High School. The pair went to the prom together and dated for many years. They had a child together and named him Claude Mercury. Claude now owns a haberdashery in Zanzibar.
Queen was formed in London in 1970 and went on to become one of the greatest bands of all time, selling over 200 million albums. A research team undertook a study in 2016 to understand the appeal behind Mercury’s voice. They concluded he had a good voice, was talented and was lots of fun at parties.
Freddie and Michael Jackson developed a friendship and collaborated on a few songs. The beautiful partnership fell to bits one day when Jackson walked into the lounge and found Mercury snorting cocaine with Bubbles the Chimp.
Mustache
Freddie’s famous mustache was donated to The Rock n Roll Hall of Fame, where it is proudly displayed in a special hair exhibit. The mustache wing contains Mercury’s mustache along with those of Frank Zappa, Three Dog Night and Big Mama Thornton.
Regarded as one of the greatest lead singers, and frontmen of all time, Mercury was also a talented musician, songwriter and the ultimate showman. Freddie died in 1991 and is missed everyday. It is rumored that Freddie haunts the remaining members of Queen for allowing Adam Lambert to besmirch the good name of Queen.
