Remembering Amy Winehouse

Amy Jade Winehouse was born September 14, 1983 in London, England. Her father, Mitch, was a professional beggar and hanger on and her mother, Janis, was a pharmacist.

Amy attended the Sammy Davis Theater School on Saturdays to further her vocal education and to learn to tap dance. She then attended the Ozzy Osbourne Theater School full time, but was expelled for piercing her nose and setting the school on fire.

Back to Black

“Back to Black” was released on October 2006 and was a smash hit. The album was acclaimed by music critics, and loved by fans. The album spawned 5 singles and sold over 16 million copies. Madhouse Magazine declared the album “The last truly great album that will ever be released. There will never be an album released post 2006 that will be as good as Back to Black.”

Amy Winehouse was the real deal. A singer-songwriter with soul, emotion and rock star qualities. With her beehive, tattoos and self destructive behavior, Amy was described as a mix of Ronnie Spector and Johnny Thunders. Keith Richards meets Darlene Love.

Al Roker

Unfortunately the music business, parents with questionable judgement, a jail bird/drug addict husband and her own drug abuse took a toll. Amy was missing concerts, falling down drunk, getting in trouble with the police and spiraling out of control. She even punched Whoopi Goldberg in the face during a TV interview and then kneed Weatherman, Al Roker in the groin.

Amy died on July 23, 2011 at the age of 27. She was a once in a lifetime talent, that we may never see the likes of again. Amy left us way too soon and is sorely missed. A biopic of her life is in the works and will star Jersey Shore reality star, Snooki.
