Pink Floyd Releases New Single Titled “We Hate Roger Waters”

After nearly 30 years without new material, Pink Floyd has returned with a new track. The song, titled “We Hate Roger Waters” was inspired by David Gilmour’s visceral reaction to seeing Roger Waters on a late night talk show. Released on Friday, the song is the first new music that the band has released since 1994s The Division Bell.

Gilmour, Nick Mason, and ex-Rush bassist Geddy Lee came together with the help of Elton John on keyboards. The video, features footage from Pink Floyd’s history, highlighting the fact that Roger Waters was a big jerk. All proceeds from the cut will go to the “We Hate Roger Foundation”.

The Wall

During the making of The Wall, increasing tension and inner turmoil threatened the future of the band. The final straw came in 1984 when Roger Waters and David Gilmour were traveling to a band meeting. Waters accused Gilmour of looking out of his (Waters) window of the limo instead of the window on Gilmours side of the car. Gilmour was shocked and told Madhouse News, “Who does something like that? Who cares what window someone looks out. The windows in a car are for everyone. No one owns any of the windows. They are for all to look out of. I had enough of Rogers nonsense so I smashed him in the nuts with my guitar.”

Legal battles ensued and Waters either left the band or was pushed out. It depends who you talk to. Gilmour was the leader of the band now. He and the remaining members released two more albums and many successful tours. The hatred between Gilmour and Waters was legendary and the two often took swipes at each other in the press.

The hysterical new song written by David Gilmour takes lyrics from other Pink Floyd songs:

We don’t need no Roger Waters
He’s just another prick in the wall
Running over the same old ground
What have we found?
The same old fears
Glad Rogers not here
He has become comfortably dumb
