Phil Collins Replaces Neil Peart as Drummer For Upcoming RUSH Tour
Well, It’s been a long time coming but Rush has finally found a new drummer. Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson have announced that Phil Collins will be the new drummer for Rush. Yes, the guy from that band Genesis, the one with all the pop hits from the 1980s also plays the drums. And now he will be drumming for that Canadian progressive rock power trio Rush.
Ever since the death of drummer extraordinaire Neil Peart in 2020, there have been many rumors of who might take Neil Peart’s place if anyone. Geddy Lee told Madhouse News, “The day of Neil’s funeral I was handed a lot of resumes. I won’t name any names but one guy has the initials Mike Portnoy. Anyway that turned me off a lot. However, I knew if Rush was to ever reunite there could only be one guy worthy of holding Neil’s drum sticks and that was Phil Collins. I told him call me up anytime to jam.”
Phil Collins Joins Rush
Recent news reports have Phil dead and buried but he is still alive and well. It is true that he has had health issues in the past but recently he was given a miracle elixir by none other than Keith Richards. “The elixir perked me right up” said Collins. “I felt like a 50 year old again. It put lead in my pencil and pep in my step. This was the first time I played the drum part for “In The Air Tonight” in 25 years.”
“Do you know that my health problems all started from a prank by that sob Jimmy Page. We are good mates and one day he loosened up my drum stool. I sat on it and the metal pole went right up in me. It literally tore me a new one and I ain’t been right since. I have no hard feelings towards old Pagey, I love a good prank. It was all good clean fun.”
Collins continued, “Well I dialed Geddy right up and told him. Call Alex, we are going on the road. We got together and busted out ‘YYZ’, ‘ABACAB’, ‘Sussudio’ and ‘La Villa Strangiato’. We sounded so good and had so much fun we called the promoters right there and the tour managers and roadies. Then I ordered up a case of Elixir from Keith.”
Geddy Lee stated, “You may not know this but I am a huge fan of Phil Collins solo work of the 1980s. Against All Odds is to me the greatest song ever recorded. I weep like a baby every time I hear it. You know you do too when you are alone in the car, but I am man enough to admit it. We are going out on the road with Phil doing Rush, Genesis and Collins solo stuff. There will be a lot of extended jamming, drum solos and pop hits.“
