Staten Island, NY -
The Peter Frampton Raw tour played to a packed house at the beautiful ornate St. George Theater in Staten Island.

Frampton introduced the opening act which coincidentally was his son Julian. Julian and partner Ben Sheridan performed an entertaining acoustic set. They were energetic, fun and excellent musicians. They were just the right touch to open the Raw Tour.

To start the main act, Peter Frampton walked in wearing a black raincoat and hat. The set had been turned into a living room, complete with a coffee table, lamps and a vintage radio. It felt like a small 1950’s living room in England. Peter welcomed the audience into this intimate setting, as if we were guests in his home. How about a little music Peter?

Frampton is a guitar virtuoso, one of my all time favorite guitarists. He is a legend and has been delighting us with his music for many decades.

It was a special treat to hear the classic songs we grew up with played acoustically in an intimate setting. ‘Show Me The Way’ , ‘All I Wanna Do’, ‘Baby I Love Your Way’, ‘Lines On My Face’, ‘Do You Feel Like We Do’’ , were all played, and mixed in with Buddy Holly and Beatles classics. The acoustics of the theater were perfect for the brilliant guitar work and beautiful harmonies.

Besides the amazing songs, Frampton was basically a stand up comedian as well. His stories were poignant at times and at others, laugh out loud funny. It was great to hear about his old school chum David Jones aka David Bowie and how they used to play guitar together during lunchtime. He paid homage to Bowie and thanked him for reintroducing him to the world as a musician and guitarist.

The highlight for me was ‘Do You Feel Like We Do’ . It was an amazing arrangement. I was skeptical that this rock radio classic with its extended solos could translate to acoustic. I was wrong, it was terrific.

The crowd loved the show, and loved Peter. We sang and laughed together. We even got to be included in the show as we were asked to do the voice box solo on ‘Show Me The Way’.  It was an amazing night, and I left a bigger Frampton fan than when I walked in.
