Ohio Names Street After Joe Walsh Which He Once Vomited On

Eagles guitarist Joe Walsh was honored in his hometown of Columbus, Ohio with a street in his name. Joe Walsh once vomited on this street in 1974. The City of Columbus and the Columbus chapter of the Joe Walsh Fan Club have teamed up for the ceremony, which was held today. Walsh is in town for his VetsAid concert which will be held at the Nationwide Arena.

Goodbye Columbus

Walsh spent time as a youngster living in Columbus. Firstly He lived in a small house on Summit Street where he created some of his best memories. “It was a great time” said Walsh. “I got my first guitar there, learned to masturbate there and I almost shot my eye out with a BB gun there. It was a great old house and I recall laying in bed at night, thinking about Jayne Mansfield and listening to Chuck Berry on the radio. As a matter of fact My mom had to burn those sheets.”

Fast forward to 1974. At this point Joe already had success with The James Gang and was now a successful solo artist. It was June 23 and Joe was doing a gig in Cleveland with The Beach Boys, Lynyrd Skynyrd and REO Speedwagon.

Walsh recalls, “After the gig I convinced Ronnie Van Zant, Mike Love, and a roadie named Cheeks to drive with me to Columbus. We drove to my old house and we got really drunk in my tree house. Then we walked on down to High Street. Rory Gallagher and Kiss were playing at the Agora Ballroom. After that We must have stopped in 10 bars that night. That was the night Mike Love turned me on to the ‘Bar Rag Shot’. That is when the bartender squeezes out his dirty liquor soaked bar rag into a shot glass. We must have downed like 15 of those bad boys that night.”

Chili Dogs

“The rest of the night is a blur but I do remember feeling sick after eating 2 chili dogs from a hot dog cart outside the Agora. I then puked my guts out down a side street. It’s actually more of an alley than a street. Whatever it was, it was covered in bar rag shots and chili dogs that night. Well, that alley is now called Joe Walsh Way. It is an honor. It is pretty funny that a vomit soaked alley off of High Street is now named after me. That pretty much sums it up. Good times.”
