Mick Jagger Is The New Spokesperson For Popeyes Chicken Restaurant
In a surprising announcement, Popeyes Louisiana Grill has announced that rocker Mick Jagger will be their new spokesperson.
“I love Popeyes” said Jagger. “The Stones first ate Popeye’s in 1972 while on tour in New Orleans. I never had anything like it, it was delicious. Popeye’s fueled every tour since. We used to have a guy travel with us just to hold the chicken and biscuits.”
Spicy Chicken
“I love everything on the menu” said Mick. “My favorite is to get a Spicy Chicken Combo, 1/4 lb. popcorn shrimp, red beans & rice, mashed potatoes with cajun gravy, 6 biscuits and a gallon of mountain dew. Then for desert I get the Chocolate Beignets. I am in heaven, I eat that sh*t every night while on tour. I get the senior discount. It saves quite a bit.”
“I also love Popeye the sailor man cartoon” said Jagger. “I always watched the cartoon as a kid and the band loved watching it while on tour in the states during the sixties. Did you know that Popeyes was not named after the cartoon but after Gene Hackman’s character Popeye Doyle from The French Connection?”
Beaks & Buns
Popeyes was founded in New Orleans in 1972 by Al Copeland as “Chicken In The Rear”. The restaurant failed after 4 months. Copeland reopened after 4 days with a new name, “Popeyes Beaks & Buns”. That closed after a week and Al changed the name to “Popeyes Mutha Lovin’ Chicken”. This went on for a while until they finally found success with “Popeyes Famous Fried Chicken”. There are currently 3,102 Popeyes restaurants. They are located in more than 40 states and 30 countries worldwide.
Popeyes has added a few items to honor the new partnership with Mick as well. There is a “Brown Sugar” Beignet, “Jumping Mac Flash” Mac & Cheese, and a “Monkey Man” banana shake. They also added British treats such as Chips, Crisps and Bangers & Mash.
