Lynyrd Skynyrd's Free Bird Banned in California

California voters were heard loud and clear when they overwhelmingly voted in favor of Proposition 38. Prop 38 bans the song ‘Free Bird’ from being played in public in any shape or form. “The song goes against everything we stand for” said a man while pooping in the street.

Free Bird

‘Free Bird’ is the 7 minute plus Lynyrd Skynyrd classic song. It has been overplayed ad nauseam in the past 50 years. The song was first featured on the band’s debut album in 1973. Since it’s release, “Free Bird” has been played over 7 Billion times in over 5K countries.

The proposition forbids any band to play the song unless there is a current member named ‘Van Zant’ in the band. The proposition also makes it a punishable offense to yell out ‘Free Bird’ at a concert in a lame attempt at humor. Anyone yelling ‘Free Bird’ at a concert will face up to 6 months in prison and a $5,000 fine.

The head of the Anti Free Bird Association, John Pyne stated “It’s time to make music great again. This is the right step in that direction, the people have spoken.” Pyne has had a vendetta against Rock music and once petitioned to have all rock music banned. “I am a big fan of disco music” said Pyne. “The Bee Gees are my favorite band and I have never gotten over the fact that rock music destroyed disco. Ever since that disco demolition night at Comiskey Park, I have made it my life’s mission to get back at rock music and rock music fans.”

Released as a single in November 1974, “Free Bird” became the band’s second Top 40 hit in early 1975, peaking at No. 19 on January 25. A live version of the song reentered the charts in late 1976, eventually peaking at No. 38 in January 1977. “Free Bird” also achieved the No. 3 spot on Guitar World’s 100 Greatest Guitar Solos. It is considered to be Lynyrd Skynyrd’s signature song, is used as a finale during their live performances, and is their longest song, often going well over 2 hours when played live.

  1. This has to be the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever read. I’m playing Free Bird right now. One of the best songs ever written.
