KC of Sunshine Band Breaks Hip While Shaking Booty on Stage

Harry Wayne Casey aka KC of KC and the Sunshine Band, injured himself while performing on stage in Florida.

KC and the Sunshine Band were performing at The Burt Reynolds Dinner Theater in Jupiter Florida when the incident occurred. It was during their big hit ‘Shake Your Booty’, when KC shook it a little too aggressively and broke his hip.

Things were going great. The band performed all their big hits. “I’m Your Boogie Man”, “Boogie Shoes”, “Shake Your Boogie”, “Everybody Boogie”, “Boogie Polka”, “Boogie Waltz in D Minor” and “Booty Boogie”. The crowd was enjoying themselves and KC was feeding off of them. A great time was being had by all. Then, during the encore of “Shake Your Booty” the unthinkable happened. KC got a little too into the music and forgot his age. He was doing pelvic thrusts and began shaking his booty with reckless abandonment. There was a loud pop and KC collapsed to the ground.

The Sunshine Band were the biggest band ever to hail from Hialeah, Florida. During the 1970’s, KC’s infectious dance hits, took the world by storm. The whole world was shaking their collective booty’s. Even Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford were shaking their booty’s.

They were the first act to score four #1 pop singles in one 12-month period since the Beatles in 1964. Three of those singles crossed over to become #1 R&B, as well.

The albums went triple platinum and KC also received Grammy Awards for Album of the Year, as well as Producer of the Year in 1978 for his work on the SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER soundtrack. Then there was a backlash against all things disco and KC”s career took a 40 year hiatus .

The fans never stopped loving KC though. This was evident in the tens of fans that showed up at the Burt Reynold’s dinner theater to show their love and shake their booty. KC was treated at the hospital and released. He is recovering nicely.
