John Lydon Disguised as Queen Elizabeth Makes Surprise Appearance at Jubilee
The World was delighted when Queen Elizabeth made a surprise appearance on the Buckingham Palace balcony during the final day of the Jubilee celebration. However, that was not Queen Elizabeth. It was singer John Lydon aka Johnny Rotten, disguised as The Queen.
Lydon, dressed in a green coat, green hat and white gloves, stood and watched as thousands of members of the public sang “God Save the Queen.” Before departing the balcony, Lydon gave a royal wave and appeared to flip the crowd the bird.
God Save The Queen
This seems quite ironic since Lydon was lead singer of the 1970s British Punk band, The Sex Pistols. Lydon then known as Johnny Rotten and The Sex Pistols were controversial and shocking at the time. Their hit songs include “Anarchy in the UK” and “God Save The Queen”. Lydon was often critical of the Queen and the Monarchy, but he recently met with the Queen and clarified his remarks.
“I’ve got no animosity against any one of the royal family” said Lydon. “Never did. It’s the institution of it that bothers me and the assumption that I’m to pay for that. There’s where I draw the line. It’s like, ‘No, you’re not getting ski holidays on my tax.” Johnny and Queen Elizabeth became fast friends and have been spending a lot of time together.
Bunch of Twits
It was Queen Elizabeth’s idea for John to prank the crowd at the Jubilee. She helped Lydon with his hair, makeup and she personally picked his outfit. Lydon was joined on the balcony by the Queen’s heirs, Princes Charles, William and George, as well as Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, Kate, Duchess of Cambridge and Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. Not one of them realized the Queen was replaced by a legendary punk singer. “What a bunch of twits” laughed Lydon.
The Jubilee is a 4 day celebration where millions in towns and cities across the United Kingdom get drunk and vomit on themselves as a way to mark Queen Elizabeth II’s 70-year reign. This is the 96 year old Queen’s platinum Jubilee. We are looking forward to celebrating the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in 2027.
