John Fogerty Opens Alligator Farm in Florida Everglades
Musician John Fogerty has opened an Alligator farm in the Florida Everglades. The farm will also offer Gator wrestling, swamp tours and a petting zoo.
Fogerty was the lead singer, lead guitarist, and principal songwriter of the 1960s band, Creedence Clearwater Revival. The group had nine top-10 singles and eight gold albums between 1968 and 1972, and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993. Every one of the band’s songs invoked imagery of swamps, bayous, rivers and gators.
Swamps
“I always loved the swamp” said Fogerty. “I had never actually been to a swamp and I didn’t really even know what a Bayou was. Nonetheless, I became obsessed and couldn’t write a song without bayous and swamps running through my mind. As a boy, Gators were my favorite animal or reptile, whatever the heck they are. So it made sense that I would be destined to own a gator farm.”
Fogerty is personally involved with the farm and it is not just a business investment. “I will personally drive the fan boats on the swamp tours” said John. “However, the best part is that I will be wrestling the Gators as well. I have been training and there ain’t a Gator out there that can whoop me.”
“I had a little problem last month” said Fogerty. “It was during an exhibition when I stuck my head in the gators mouth. I made a mistake and the gator made me pay for it. A drop of sweat fell off my head onto the gators tongue. He immediately clamped down on my skull and went into the death roll. It was pretty gruesome. Little children were screaming and crying. Thank goodness that my assistant was able to get a stick into the gators mouth and free me. I thought my head was going to pop right off there for a minute. I ended up with 300 staples but it was all good fun.”
Gator Farm
The Fogerty Everglades Gator Farm is open 365 days a year and is located off Hwy 9336 in the Everglades. The farm offers four shows a day and daily feeding and petting zoo. They also offer a full bar and restaurant. Every Saturday evening, Fogerty and his band will perform a live concert and hootenanny. Nothing goes better than alcohol and Gators.
