On this day in 1977, Joe Walsh of The Eagles perpetrated the greatest prank of all time.

The Eagles had just finished a concert in Oakland, California. ‘The Day on The Green’ was an annual concert presented by promoter Bill Graham and held at The Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum. The lineup included Heart, Foreigner, Steve Miller, The Doobie Brothers and Jimmie JJ Walker. In short, The show was a huge success and a great time was had by all.

After that, The Eagles continued the party well into the night. Following a night of drinking with the band, crew and friends, Don Henley passed out and Joe Walsh attempted to give him a circumcision. The attempt was botched, leaving Henley scarred for life and leaning to the left.

Joe Walsh says “Keep the tip”

“I don’t know what I was thinking” said Walsh, “I was out of my mind a lot back then. I had just finished super gluing all the furniture to the ceiling and I was feeling bored. It was about 4AM and it was just Me, Mick Jones of Foreigner and Steve Miller still awake. Henley was passed out naked on the floor. His junk looked like bazooka joe wearing a turtle neck so I figured I would help him out and remedy the situation. I got out my trusty old Swiss army knife and went to work on him. I got half way through and realized I had no idea what I was doing. The knife was old, dull and rusty. The knife got stuck and Steve Miller pulled the rest off with a pliers.”

Interesting Bunch of Guys

The next morning Henley woke up writhing in pain with his unit wrapped in gauze and duct tape. “I had no idea what happened” said Henley “then I heard Miller and Walsh giggling uncontrollably in the other room. They rushed me to the hospital and I am now scarred for life, but it was all good clean fun. I can pee around corners now. That Walsh is an interesting bunch of guys.”
