Jimi Hendrix Final Interview – September 17, 1970
We once again rummaged through our dusty archives and found a real gem. This never before seen or heard interview with Jimi Hendrix was found underneath a stack of old “Hee Haw” trading cards and “Free Huey” buttons.
This Hendrix interview, conducted by renowned rock journalist Claude Balzac, was conducted on September 17, 1970. This was Jimi’s final interview ever. The interview took place off and on the for the entire week leading up to the 17th.
Madhouse Magazine: Jimi – great to see you again. Thanks for taking the time to talk to us.
Jimi Hendrix: Claude, my man, my pleasure, I Love Madhouse. I read it while I am getting my hair did. Also I really like to read it while a groupie is servicing me.
Madhouse Magazine: So it’s a lovely day here in London and we are sitting in your English Garden sipping tea and smoking hashish. What could be better?
Jimi Hendrix: Yes today is a good day but I have troubles man.
Madhouse: Is it because your girlfriend Monika is staring at us and giving us the evil eye?
Hendrix: Oh man, I got 99 problems man and that b*tch is definitely one of them.
Madhouse: I hear another bird filed a paternity suit against you?
Hendrix: Yes this chick back in the States. I have no idea who she is. She claims i balled her in Baltimore. Her name is Nancy D’Alesandro and she says I autographed her boob. Then she turned it into a tattoo. Fans are crazy man.
Madhouse: Last time I saw you, was at Woodstock. That was a lot of fun.
Hendrix: Yes it sure was man. I got there Friday and I was wasted out of my mind and didn’t play until Monday morning. There was like 35 people left in the audience by then. They were all covered in mud and poop. Leslie West of Mountain told me he still hasn’t been able to wash the mud out of his butt crack. I pooped in the woods and I saw a fan scoop it up and put it in a plastic bag. I bet someday he will sell it. Authentic Jimi Hendrix crap.
Madhouse: So what’s next musically? I hear Billy Cox is leaving the band?
Hendrix: Yeah he got kicked in the head by a mule and is acting whacky so I need a new Bass player. I have a lot of big plans. Don’t tell anyone but I have a band forming next week with Paul McCartney, Sly Stone, Ginger Baker and Miles Davis. Then I am doing an acoustic album. It will be just me and the guitar. But the thing I am really psyched about is tap dancing. I am going to be tap dancing on the Red Skelton show around Thanksgiving. That is my first love and my real true love.
Madhouse: Sounds amazing, now you need to dump this crazy german fraulein Monika. She reminds me of Eva Braun.
Hendrix: Yeah, she is psycho but you know what they say about crazy chicks. Believe me it’s all true.
Madhouse: So what’s up with your manager Michael Jeffery?
Hendrix: He is crooked as the day is long, allegedly. Mitch Mitchell saw him carrying suitcases of my money. Also allegedly, but I am looking to dump him. Do you know any good managers?
Madhouse: I can’t help you there but I think getting away from these two will be a good idea and give you peace.
Hendrix: Amen brother man.
Madhouse: So what do you do for fun? Do you like to watch Television?
Hendrix: I love television. My favorite shows are Hee Haw, The Jim Nabors show, did you know there is a rumor that Nabors and Rock Hudson are involved romantically? That goes no further than this room, but can you imagine anyone being romantically attracted to Jim Nabors? to each his own.
*Note – Later that evening Claude and Jimi went to a party and Monika Dannemann caused a scene. She forced Jimi to leave the party at 3AM. He was never seen alive again. Rumors, innuendos and books have said that maybe the girlfriend or manager Michael Jeffery killed Jimi with drugs and wine. However no one was ever charged and there is no evidence or proof there was any wrong doing or foul play. However, what is curious is that Jefferey was seen leaving Jimi’s flat in the early morning hours. He later died in a plane crash. Also curiously, Dannemann was seen leaving the airplane hangar right before the flight took off. Monika became involved with german guitarist Uli Jon Roth. Danneman was later found dead in a fume-filled Mercedes Benz in her garage. Her death was ruled a suicide. Uli declared foul play was involved and that he saw drummer Mitch Mitchell hanging around by the garage earlier in the day. Uli now owns Jimi’s black beauty Fender Stratocaster.
