Janis Joplin Soiled Underpants Sold at Auction for $1.7Million!
A pair of soiled Hanes underpants once owned by Janis Joplin was sold at auction for an incredible $1.7 million.
The underpants were worn by Janis during the WoodStock Music festival in 1969 and discarded in the woods. Festival goer Stephen Von Bello found the underpants at the end of the 3 day festival and saved them all this time.
Janis Joplin’s Underpants
“I was packing up my gear and getting ready to go home” said Mr. Von Bello. “Woodstock was a blast but my crack was filled with mud and I was starving. I was looking around by the stage area for souvenirs. My Friend Jimmy saw them and said hey that looks like Janis Joplin’s underpants. So I picked them up and put them in my backpack. I hung them on my wall when I got home and just kind of forgot about them.”
“Many years later, my friend Jimmy came over. He was staring at the wall and said hey are those the Janis underpants from Woodstock? He said I bet those are worth a lot of money. Me and Jimmy took the underpants on antique roadshow and they said if we can prove they belonged to Janis, they would be worth a lot of money. So we went to a lab and had them do a DNA test and sure enough they belonged to Janis Joplin.”
“I took the underpants with my certificate of authenticity to Pawn Stars in Vegas. You know that TV show with Rick and Chumlee. Well that SOB Rick said the best he could do was $50. The usual spiel about having to frame them blah blah blah. I told him to take a hike and I put them up for auction.”
The underpants were bought at auction for $1.7 million dollars by Claude Daniels, a collector from Woodland Hills California. Mr. Daniels has a huge collection of curiosities which includes Milton Berle’s Jock Strap and Lady Bird Johnson’s diaphragm.
