Happy Birthday Sting
Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner was born October 2, 1951 somewhere in England. His father was an industrious man and held 3 jobs. He worked as a milkman, an engineer and a lawyer. Little Gordon helped his father milk the cows and deliver the milk.
Gordon received the nickname “Stink” at age 5, when his father declared loudly in front of all his school chums, “Gordon, you smell like wide open ass. Get in the house and clean yourself”. “Stink” later evolved into “Sting” through British accents and the fact the boy often wore Black and Yellow striped shorts.
After leaving school in 1969, he enrolled at University, but left after a day. After working as a bus conductor, building labourer, tax officer, he attended the Northern Counties College of Education from 1971 to 1974 and qualified as a teacher. He taught at St Paul’s First School in Cramlington for two years.
Sting formed ‘The Police’ in 1977 in London with Sting and Andy Summers. A three-piece band influenced by Punk, Reggae and Jazz was quite an original idea at the time. The band went on to sell over 7 billion records, making them one of the world’s best selling artists of all time.
“Roxanne”, you know you are singing it right now. Probably picturing Eddie Murphy singing it in the movie, 48 Hrs. Hit after hit, MTV, The Police were the 1980’s. They have awesome album titles as well: “Zenyatta Mondatta”, “Regatta de Blanc” & “Outlandos d’Amour”.
Sting is an incredibly talented musician, singer/songwriter with a unique vocal style. He has a successful solo career, and has done some acting. He was most recently on tour with Shaggy. Sting has been married to Trudie Styler for many years and it is said they engage in tantric sex, sometimes lasting 4 days per session.
