Happy Birthday Peter Gabriel
Peter Roman Gabriel was born February 13, 1950 on a cold wintery day in Chobham, Surrey, England. That’s 3 places. Apparently it was a very long birth and his mom kept moving around?
Not much is know about Peter, but he must have been from a wealthy family since he attended private schools and a fancy prep school for boys. The headmaster called him little Lord F*ck Pants.
Genesis
Gabriel of course, first rose to fame with Genesis. Peter was quite bizarre at this time. A typical Genesis show had Gabriel wearing fluorescent make-up, a cape, bat wings, a helmet, chest plate, shield and a Richard Nixon mask. And that was just for sound check. Come show time, he really went all out.
Gabriel left Genesis and went solo. After auditioning 7000 singers, they picked the little troll behind the drum kit to sing. The rest is history. Peter did well for himself also, releasing a ton of commercial and critically acclaimed music. Peter married Jill Moore, daughter of Lord Moore of Wolvercote. I told you he was fancy!
In 2020, Genesis announced they are reforming for a tour, the first in over a decade. Phil Collins, Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford confirmed they will do a series of concerts and invited Peter to join. Gabriel, who left the band in 1975, will not take part. “F*ck those guys” said Gabriel. “They only want to play that 80’s Genesis trash. I would rather play with Barry Manilow.” Cheers Peter.
