Happy Birthday Peter Frampton

peterFrampton Head

Peter Kenneth Frampton was born April 22, 1945 somewhere in England. He attended Bromley Technical High School, at which his father, Owen Frampton, was a teacher and the head of the Art department. Little Peter taught himself to play the ‘banjolele’, which he discovered in his grandmother’s attic. At the age of eight, he began taking classical music lessons. Who knew that there was such a thing as a banjolele!? What level of hell was this instrument created!? What sadist invented this!? This is almost as bad as the harmonicaccordion!

Peter became a successful child singer, and in 1966 he became a member of The Herd. He was the lead guitarist and singer, scoring several British pop hits. Frampton was named “The Face of 1968” by teen magazine Rave. He was later named “The Buttocks of 1978” by the same magazine, which was a huge honor.

Humble Pie

Humble Pie, Solo Work. Frampton had little commercial success with his early albums. This all changed with the 1976 best-selling live album, Frampton Comes Alive! It sold over 5 Billion copies, and just like that Frampton was the biggest star in the world. Selling out stadiums all over the world.

Frampton Comes Alive

The success of Frampton Comes Alive! put him on the cover of Rolling Stone, in a famous shirtless photo by Francesco Scavullo. The photo changed his image as a credible artist into a teen idol, which was terrifying to Peter. He also mentions that Scavullo chased him around the studio and grabbed him by the organ.

In June 1978, Frampton suffered broken bones, a concussion, and muscle damage in a near fatal car accident. Dealing with the pain of the accident led to a brief period of drug abuse. This may explain The Sgt Pepper remake movie.

Frampton is one of the greatest guitarists of all time and he has such a beautiful voice. Happy Birthday to an incredible artist. Cheers Peter!
