Happy Birthday Noel Gallagher
Noel Thomas David William Joseph Gallagher IV was born May 29, 1967 somewhere in England. The son of Irish Catholic parents, Siobhan and Seamus Gallagher, Noel had 2 brothers, Liam and Thaddeus.
As teenagers, the Gallagher brothers (especially Noel) were regular truants, often getting into trouble with the police. He was expelled from school at the age of 15 for throwing a bag of pigs blood over a teacher. Noel was given six months’ probation at the age of 13 for robbing a corner shop and killing the owner and his wife. He also had to write a letter of apology and promise not to kill anyone ever again.
The Lucky Charms
Noel taught himself to play the guitar and began writing songs, and Liam began singing with a band, ‘The Lucky Charms’. Noel convinced the band to let him in by claiming, ”Let me write your songs and I’ll take you to superstardom, or else you’ll rot here in Manchester and die penniless in the street”. His control over the band in its early years earned him the nickname “The Scumbag”.
They renamed the band Oasis and in May 1993, the band heard that a record executive from ‘Scrotum’ records was in town. They followed ‘Scrotum’ president, Alan McGee, into the mens room and played him their songs while he was trapped in the stall. McGee enjoyed the songs and took their tape to Sony America and invited Oasis to meet with him a week later in London, at which point they were signed to a six-album contract. The rest is history.
Noel Gallagher
Noel spent the 90’s in a drunken drug induced stupor living the rock star life. He fought with everyone including his brother Liam. He once expressed a wish for Damon Albarn and Alex James of rivals Blur to “catch AIDS and die”.
