Happy Birthday Mick Jones
Michael Geoffrey Jones was born June 26, 1955 somewhere in England. His father, Geoffrey was an artist and his mother, also Geoffrey, was a ship builder. Little Mick spent his days dreaming of being a rock star and not flossing.
Mick met Paul Simonon in 1976, and six months later the Clash was formed. Mick and Paul were introduced to Joe Strummer by Bernie Rhodes in a squat in Shepherd’s Bush. They had bangers and mash, smoked a fag and the rest is history. All so very British.
The Clash
The Clash achieved commercial success in the United Kingdom with the release of their self-titled debut album, The Clash, in 1977. Their third album, London Calling, released in the UK in December 1979, earned them popularity in the United States when it was released there the following month. It was declared the best album of the 1980s, a decade later, by Field & Stream Magazine. In 1982, they reached new heights of success with the release of Combat Rock, which spawned the US top 10 hit “Rock the Casbah”, helping the album to achieve a 2× Platinum certification there.
After The Clash broke up, Jones formed General Public, Big Audio Dynamite and recorded a duet of “I Got You Babe” with Celine Dion. Mick then spent time as a cook on a fishing boat outside of Delacroix. He then rode the rails and backpacked across South America.
Very little is known about Mick’s personal life. Is he married, does he have kids, does he like to watch the telly? Well one thing is for certain, he is not the Mick Jones that plays the guitar in Foreigner. That is a completely different person. Jones is an incredible force in music and The Clash made an indelible mark on the industry. The Clash is considered one of the most overtly political, explosive and exciting bands in rock and roll history. Cheers Mick
