Happy Birthday Joe Walsh
Joseph Fidler Walsh was born November 20, 1947 in Wichita, Kansas. Fidler!? Yes his middle name is Fidler because his mother was a big fan of the book “Fiddler on the Roof”, which later became a hit on Broadway and a major motion picture release. When Walsh was twelve years old, his family moved to New York City. Later, Walsh moved to Montclair, New Jersey, and he attended Montclair High School, where he played oboe and flugelhorn in the school band.
After Joe realized he was not getting any chicks playing the oboe, he switched to guitar. After High School, Joe moved to Ohio and joined a band, “The Measles”. They broke up and he joined a series of bands named after diseases. “The Small Pox”, “Coxsackie”, and “Swamp A$$” before forming “The James Gang”. The James Gang produced such classics as “Funk #49” and “Walk Away”. Joe left the band in 1971 after the bass player farted on him during a show at New York’s Carnegie Hall.
The Eagles
Joe had a successful solo career and a ton of hits before he joined The Eagles in 1975. Joe was a key part of the success of “Hotel California” in 1976. The Eagles broke up in 1980 and Joe has spent the next 40 years as a solo artist, Eagles reunion tours, and playing with Ringo Starr among many others.
Stevie Nicks states that Joe Walsh was the love of her life. Joe’s wife Marjorie replied saying she will scratch Stevie’s eyes out next time she sees her. Did you know that Joe is married to Marjorie Bach, the sister of Ringo’s wife Barbara Bach!? Walsh has been married 5 times to 6 different women. Amazingly he still has a net worth of $75 Million.
Joe known as “The Clown Prince of Rock n Roll” often traveled with his own construction crew so he could renovate and redecorate entire hotel rooms. In 1977 Walsh perpetrated the greatest prank of all time. After a night of drinking with the band, crew and friends, Don Henley passed out and Joe Walsh attempted to give him a circumcision. The attempt was botched, leaving Henley scarred for life and leaning to the left.
Joe Mama
Joe Walsh has been described as a fluid and intelligent guitar player. Not sure what that means, but I like his sound and feel and his playing. An incredible vocalist, songwriter and musician, everybody loves Joey! In his spare time Joe is an avid Ham Radio fan. Not sure what that means either, as we prefer Bologna radios. In 2004, Joe appeared in his own TV Show, a remake of “The White Shadow”. Joe played a white basketball coach, “Joe Mama”, who returns to his inner city High School as the basketball coach. Unfortunately it was cancelled after one episode after Joe destroyed the set.
