Happy Birthday Dave Grohl

David Eric Grohl was born January 14, 1969 in Warren, Ohio. Grohl went from drummer to one of the greatest bands in the world, to singer/guitarist and frontman to another of the greatest bands in the world. Not an easy task.

As a teen, Grohl immersed himself in the world of Punk. At 13, Grohl and his sister spent the summer in Evanston, Illinois, at their cousin Tracy’s house. Tracy Morgan introduced them to punk rock by taking the pair to shows by a variety of punk bands. His first concert was The Bloody Rectums at The Diarrhea Bowl in Chicago in 1982. Grohl recalled, “From then on we were totally punk.”

During his developing years as a drummer, Grohl cited John Bonham as his greatest influence, and longed to eventually choke on his own or someone else’s vomit.

Grohl joined Nirvana in 1990 and ‘Nevermind’ was released September 24, 1991. The album became a huge unexpected breakout smash and soared to number one on the charts. ‘Nevermind’ ushered in the grunge movement, and Kurt Cobain was silently elected as the spokesperson of a generation. ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ was their rallying cry.

Their next and final album ‘In Utero’, released in September 1993 debuted at #1 on the charts. On Friday, April 8, 1994, Cobain was found dead of a self-inflicted shotgun wound to the head at his home in Seattle. Many conspiracy theories exist, and they all involve someone who’s initials are ‘Courtney Love’.

On July 4th 1995, The debut album by The Foo Fighters was released. The album received commercial and critical success. Grohl played all the instruments himself. ‘The Colour and the Shape’ released in 1997 contained the hits “Monkey Wrench”, “My Hero”, and “Everlong”.

Grohl, was recently in the news when he was bitten on his junk by a spider. I was in Florida, and went to take care of business in a portable toilet. “I was sitting there minding my business, reading the new issue of Madhouse Magazine, and I felt a sting” says Grohl. “I saw the spider running away and within 30 minutes, I knew that I was in trouble.” On his way to the hospital, “I could see the flesh corrupting,” he recalls. “The penis was real hot, and the ‘nads were swelling. I got to the emergency room, and thank god the nurse knew straight away what it was. She saw 3 cases of Penis spider bites that morning. My balls were the size of basketballs. It looked like i was riding a ‘hoppity hop’.”  Cheers Dave!
