Happy Birthday Ace Frehley

KissCover

Paul Daniel Frehley was born April 27, 1951 in the Bronx, NYC. His parents, Esther and Josiah Frehley were Amish. They were the first duo to escape The Pennsylvania Dutch. They relocated to NYC and soon became the toast of The Bronx.

Christmas 1964

Little Paul received an electric guitar as a Christmas present in 1964. This was a huge event, since the Amish do not play musical instruments because it is viewed as a means of self-expression, which would garner feelings of pride and superiority. Amish church songs derive from the Ausbund, the High German songbook, which has no musical notes. Sounds delightful, music with no notes.

Ace joined Kiss in 1973 after answering an ad in the back of ‘Hiney Boy’ magazine, a Gay Adult magazine. The rest is history. He took the role of ‘The Spaceman’ because he was known for constantly making ‘Uranus’ jokes.

With Casablanca records almost bankrupt and their first 2 albums not selling well, Kiss was in danger of being dropped, until Kiss Alive in 1975. After that, Kiss was riding high. Kids loved the pyrotechnics, the makeup, the costumes. the blood, the tongue and the merchandise. However, it all started going downhill in 1978. Solo Albums, ‘Kiss Meets the Phantom of the Park’, disco songs, taking off the makeup, drinking, drugs, infighting. It was a disaster and Ace finally left the band.

Tulips On The Organ

There were a few reunion shows and lots of fighting between Gene/Paul and Ace/Peter over the years to come. There were accusations about groping wives and tulips on the organ. For the final tour, Gene admitted that he planned to harvest and sell Ace and Peter’s organs. Happy Birthday Ace!
