Greta Thunberg’s Brother Hans Joins Swedish Metal Band Amon Amarth

Did you know that environmental activist Greta Thunberg has a brother named Hans? And did you know that he is an incredible heavy metal musician? Well, she does and he is. Hans just joined the Swedish Heavy Metal Band, Amon Amarth.

Hans Thunberg is considered by many as a prodigy. He can play almost any instrument but he is a master of the Flugelhorn. Hans studied at the “Kungliga Musikhögskolan” which is Sweden’s most elite conservatory. Known as The Royal College of Music, it is the oldest institution of higher education in music in Sweden, founded in 1771 in Stockholm as the conservatory of the Royal Swedish Academy of Music.

Amon Amarth

Amon Amarth is a Swedish melodic death metal band from Tumba, formed in 1992. The band takes its name from the Sindarin name of Mount Doom, a volcano in J. R. R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth. Their lyrics mostly deal with Viking mythology and history, and so they have been sometimes erroneously labeled “Viking metal” although the band insists they play melodic death metal. That is considered a serious faux pas.

According to the Recording Industry Association of America, Amon Amarth has sold 48 million albums in Sweden making them the 25th-best selling band. They are right behind David Hasselhoff who is number 24. Their worldwide sales have reached over 100 million records globally, making them one of the world’s best-selling bands of all time.

Lead Singer Johan Hegg told Madhouse News, “We have been trying to get Hans to join the band for years. Think how awesome our songs will sound with a flugelhorn. Just imagine ‘Twilight of the Thunder God’ with flugelhorn. Hans can play every instrument. We can add Tuba to ‘War of the Gods’ or maybe banjo on ‘Raise Your Horns’, I just got chills.”

There are three Thunberg siblings, Greta, Beata and Hans. Hans is the black sheep of the family as he is an avowed carnivore and doesn’t recycle. He loves to tease his sisters and often burps in Greta’s face after eating sausages. “Greta loves a good sausagey burb first thing in the morning” said Hans. “She then yells at me how dare you.”
