Funeral Mixup: Angus Young Buried Guitar, Brought Brother Malcom Home in The Case
In what is being called the greatest mixup of all time, Angus Young of AC/DC apparently committed the ultimate gaffe at his brother Malcolms funeral.
Malcolm Young who was guitarist and founder of the band AC/DC, passed away in 2017. At the funeral, the plan was to display Malcolm’s beloved guitar, “The Beast” in the casket and then Angus was to bring the guitar back to the AC/DC family compound/museum for safekeeping. The Beast was 1963 red Gretsch Double-cutaway Jet Firebird guitar.
Candid Interview
During a candid interview with Madhouse News, Angus relayed the never before heard story. “It was a natural thing” said Angus. “Of course we would display the guitar at the funeral. We discussed burying the guitar with my brother, but decided to bring the guitar home at the end. I had a few drinks that day and there was a lot going on. I somehow accidentally packed Malcom into the guitar case and the guitar into the coffin. Everything was closed up and off we went to the cemetery.”
Angus continued, “The next morning I went to play the guitar and opened up the case. Boy was my face red when I realized the mixup. I rang up the church and they made the switch. The Monsignor gave me quite the tongue lashing. I have to say Malcolm was definitely looking down and laughing the whole time. He had a great sense of humor and would have gotten a great big kick out of this. He would have had quite the laugh.”
AC/DC singer Brian Johnson commented, “I can’t believe that little bugger actually told that story. He was so embarrassed. Did he tell you the story when he gave the eulogy at a funeral but it turns out that it was the wrong funeral, what a little shite”.
