Freddie Mercury’s Mustache Inducted Into Rock Hall of Fame
Even though it was unannounced, the induction of Freddie Mercury’s mustache into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame, surely was the highlight of the evening.
The Rock n Roll Hall of Fame is opening a special exhibit in the Cleveland museum, dedicated entirely to Rock n Roll hair. Of course, the first induction into the exhibit was none other than Freddie’s mustache.
The iconic ‘stache was inducted by famous mustache aficionados Will Ferrell and Nick Offerman. The duo gave moving speeches on how they were influenced by Mercury’s facial hair. Ferrell explained how as a disadvantaged youth, Freddie’s mustache took him in, fed him and taught him how to read. Offerman added, “Mercury’s mustache has more talent than most of the people in this room and half of the artists in the hall.”
Ed Sheeran
This wasn’t just an honorary induction, the actual mustache was in attendance. How was this possible you ask? Well Freddie’s mustache is actually owned by musician Ed Sheeran. Sheeran has a large collection of macabre and strange music related memorabilia. Also in his collection is the Def Leppard drummers severed arm, the severed head of Jayne Mansfield, the severed penis of John Bobbitt, the finger of Jerry Garcia and the prize of his collection, Adolf Hitlers shriveled atrophied testicles.
Freddie first grew the famous mustache in 1980. When fans first saw the videos and the album cover for the Game, many were shocked that Mercury shed his long locks. Girls cried, boys cried, but eventually the new look caught on and became iconic. Who could forget Freddie at Live Aid? The mustache, tight mom jeans, tank top and arm band are indelibly inked into millions of Queen fans all over the world.
Other items inducted into the hair wing include: Frank Zappa’s Van Dyke, David Cassidy’s hair, Janis Joplin’s pubes, Elvis Presley’s nose hair, ZZ Top Beards, Billy Preston’s afro, Jerry Garcia’s sideburns, Michael Jackson’s burnt hair from the Pepsi commercial and Phil Spector’s infamous wig worn at his trial.
