Elderly Groupie Found Living in Aerosmith’s Original Tour Van for 40 Years!
Groupie living in Aerosmith’s van? The hosts of the History Channel’s American Pickers discovered Aerosmith’s original tour van in the Western Massachusetts woodlands. But it took a while for the band to find a former groupie living in a hidden room of the van. Apparently, she had been living in the van for the last 40 years!
Aerosmith’s custom-pained 1964 International Harvester Metro went missing in the ’70s. American Pickers hosts, Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz found someone identified as Phil who claimed to have uncovered the van in the brush. Phil told the American Pickers duo that the van was on the property when he first purchased the land. Further investigation confirmed that Aerosmith did indeed use the van back in the day.
Groupie In Aerosmith Van
Aerosmith purchased the van from Phil for $25,000. Much to the band’s surprise, they found an elderly groupie had been living in the van for the last 40 years. Yvonne Buchholz was a well known groupie in the 1970’s, and was known as “The Kielbasa Queen”. Yvonne was last seen on the Aerosmith van in June 1978.
“Jeez” said Steven Tyler, “I remember Yvonne, I wondered what happened to her. I do recall we were hanging out with her during the ’78 tour when the van broke down. We left her to catch a flight to Detroit for the next gig. I guess we forgot about her”.
Apparently, Yvonne waited on the tour van for a few months, and lived in a hidden paneled room that was designed to hide the band’s drug stash. The van was towed and eventually sold, before ending up in the woods of Pennsylvania. Yvonne spent 40 years in the van, eating berries and drinking water from the woods. “I knew they would eventually come back for me” said Ms. Buchholz “and I was right”.
Buchholz and Steven Tyler are now engaged to be married.
