Edgar Winter Brings ‘Frankenstein The Musical’ to Broadway Starring Snoop Dogg
Rocker Edgar Winter is bringing his 1972 smash hit song, “Frankenstein” to life. The #1 hit song is being turned into a lavish Broadway musical. It will star none other than rapper Snoop Dogg as the monster.
Frankenstein is the instrumental by The Edgar Winter Group from their 1972 album They Only Come Out at Night. The song is a classic rock anthem that is still played on FM radio stations everywhere. It is considered by many to be the greatest rock instrumental of all time.
Bright & Bouncy
The story of Frankenstein The Musical is loosely based on the original Mary Shelley book but also combines aspects from the 1973 “Blackenstein” black exploitation film. Winter also throws in some modern day touches to come up with a bright and bouncy modern day masterpiece.
Snoop Dogg plays George, a small time criminal who has been killed during a riot. Dr Francis Stein, played by Lady GaGa finds a way to revive and regenerate George using DNA therapy. After a series of booster injections, George turns into a murderous monster intent on dismembering, disemboweling and eating his victims.
Police detectives pay a visit to Dr Steins laboratory as the body count starts to rise. Unable to control the monster Dr. Stein attempts one final booster but it does nothing. The monster is annoyed by the constant boosters and declares this is the final straw as he strangles Dr. Stein. In the climatic final scene, the monster and his new meth head girlfriend played by Billie Eilish are cornered at the top of the Empire State Building. We will not spoil the ending for you.
Bring in Da Funk
The play was written by Winter and his long time friend and collaborator Rick Derringer. Lin Manuel Miranda or Manuel Lynn Miranda, we can never remember who, directs. The Choreography is by Savion Glover of Bring in Da Noise Bring in Da Funk fame. It is sure to be the toast of the Great White Way.
