Ed Sheeran Files Countersuit: Marvin Gaye Stole MY Song

Ed Sheeran was victorious in his lawsuit. Sheeran then immediately turned the tables and filed a countersuit claiming that Marvin Gaye stole his song. The original suit claimed that Sheeran’s song “Thinking Out Loud” copied the Marvin Gaye classic “Let’s Get it On”. The jury ruled that Sheeran was innocent and did not copy the 1970s hit song.

The heirs of Ed Townsend, Gaye’s co-writer of the 1973 soul classic, sued Sheeran, alleging the English pop star’s hit 2014 tune has “striking similarities” to “Let’s Get It On”. “There are overt common elements” that violate their copyright. Ed Townsend’s Grandson Peter claimed, “Both songs have a C chord. What more proof do you need?”

“Let’s Get It On” is the quintessential, sexy slow jam that’s been heard in countless films and commercials and garnered hundreds of millions of streams, spins and radio plays over the past 50 years. “Thinking Out Loud,” is the ginger version. Sheeran testified in court that his parents conceived him while listening to Marvin Gaye. “In a strange kind of way Marvin is like a father to me.” The jury was convinced.

After the trial Sheeran released a statement, “I am obviously very happy with the outcome of the case. At the same time, I am unbelievably frustrated that baseless claims like this are allowed to go to court at all. Oh and I will be filing a lawsuit today claiming that Marvin Gaye and Ed Townsend stole my song.”

This shocking move stunned the crowd and the media were shouting questions. One person asked how he can make this claim considering that Marvin Gaye wrote his song in 1973 and his song was written in 2014. Ed replied, “Duh, Didn’t you ever hear of time travelers?”

Sheeran is alleging that Gaye traveled from 1973 to the future. Ed claims that he has video of Marvin Gaye in the front row of his concert, recording the show. Gaye then got back in his time machine and went back to the seventies. Ed told the crowd, “All will be revealed”. He then laughed maniacally.
