Dee Dee Ramone Named Worst Student Of All Time By Forest Hills HS
Legendary punk rocker Dee Dee Ramone has been named the “Worst Student of All Time” by Forest Hills High School. The school, which boasts a long list of accomplished alumni, decided to bestow this dubious honor upon the late Ramone, famous for his bass-playing skills and chaotic lifestyle.
Forest Hills High School, located in the Queens neighborhood of New York City, has produced its fair share of notable graduates over the years, including Paul Simon, Art Garfunkel, Leslie West and David “Son of Sam” Berkowitz. However, none have quite lived up to the “worst student” reputation quite like Dee Dee Ramone.
Dee Dee Ramone Worst Student Ever
Ramone, born Douglas Glenn Colvin, attended Forest Hills High School in the 1960s and left a trail of academic chaos in his wake. His grades were so bad that the school to this day uses the grade of “DD” to notate a particularly terrible student. It was reported that he maintained a 0.0 GPA before being thrown out and/or graduated.
Some former teachers spoke out about Dee Dee’s tenure at Forest Hills High School. History teacher Richard Arter recalled, “We were studying Russian history and I gave the class an assignment to do a report on Lenin. The next day Dee Dee turns in a report on John Lennon. It consisted of the lyrics to a Beatles song and every word was spelled incorrectly. All i could do was laugh and give him another big fat zero.”
Another teacher, 98 year old Helen Wade added, “I remember he had the craziest answers on tests. One question was, name 6 animals that live in Arctic. Dee Dee answered, ‘4 polar bears and 2 seals.’ During a math exam, the problem was, ‘Bob has 36 candy bars, he eats 29, what does he have now? Douglas or as you call him Dee Dee answered, Diabetes. Bob has diabetes now. He may have been dumb as a rock but he was amusing.”
As someone once wrote, “Dee Dee was the archetypical f*ck up who’s life was a living disaster. He was a male prostitute, a would-be mugger, a heroin dealer, a junkie, an accomplice to armed robbery and a genius poet who was headed to prison or an early grave. Maybe even both, but he was side tracked by Rock n Roll.
