Dave Grohl Announces Mickey Hart & Bill Kreutzmann to Join Foo Fighters
Dave Grohl announced today that the Grateful Dead drumming duo of Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann will join the Foo Fighters. The iconic Hippies will join the Foos immediately as the band’s official drummers.
The Foo Fighters have been without a drummer since the untimely and heartbreaking death of drummer Taylor Hawkins. Grohl announced earlier this year that Axl Rose will be joining the band on vocals and Dave himself will return as the band’s drummer. Dave now appears to have changed his mind about that.
Dead Foo Young
Dave Grohl told Madhouse News, “We are going to have a few variations of the band. I actually got the idea from the Grateful Dead. So I thought what a genius idea to have the two original drummers of the Grateful Dead in the band. We can still have an incarnation with Axl as singer and me as drummer. What about John Mayer joining and calling us Foo and Company? Man I am psyched, the possibilities are endless. Get this, Neil Young joins and we call the band Dead Foo Young, oh man I am riffing now.”
Grohl continued, “We have had a few jam sessions with Mickey and Billy and they were incredible. We jammed for 4 hours to an extended version of Monkey Wrench. The 90 minute dual drum solo was mind blowing.”
Foo Fighters Guitarist Pat Smear immediately quit the band. “I ain’t playing with no dirty old hippies” said Smear. “Those guys smell of patchouli oil, weed and Ben Gay. All they want to do is jam. I hate drum solos, I am a punk rocker, I was a member of the Germs. Darby Crash and Kurt are turning over in their graves.”

Grohl laughed, “Don’t mind Pat, he will get over it. He will love it, you will see. These guys are legends. They played at Woodstock, Monterey and Altamont. They shared a toilet with Jerry Garcia. The Foo Fighters with double drummers sound epic.”
Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart were members of the Grateful Dead since the mid 1960s. After Garcia died in 1995 they played in various incarnations of the band. “Just because there is snow on the roof, don’t mean there’s no fire in the basement” said Kreutzmann. “We were grooving with those young whipper snappers. My back went out a couple times during Everlong but it snapped right back.”
