Cher Charged with Hate Crime For 1975 Stevie Wonder Medley w Osmonds
Cher has been charged with a hate crime for her 1975 Stevie Wonder medley with The Osmonds. The video clip taken from The Cher Show in 1975 has been making the rounds of social media recently. The performance was so terrible that it was brought to Stevie Wonder’s attention. After listening, Stevie felt he had no choice but to press charges.
Following Sonny & Cher’s breakup, Cher was given her own variety show on CBS. The Cher Show lasted for 26 painful episodes and ran from February 16, 1975 to January 4, 1976. The episode in question featured The Osmond Brothers and aired on 2/23/1975. Some call this the most 70s thing you may ever see in your lifetime. Cher and The Osmonds are dressed in matching red, white and blue bedazzled jumpsuits.
Cher & The Osmonds Ruin Stevie Wonder
Finally, For the grand finale, Cher and The Osmonds perform a Stevie Wonder medley. They cover Higher Ground, Signed, Sealed, Delivered, Superstition and others. Now we all know that Stevie songs have soul. They groove and are delivered with passion and feeling. Unfortunately The Osmonds and Cher give a lackluster, soulless white washed, milquetoast performance. Whoever thought a really white mormon boy band could pull off Stevie must have been high AF. It was the 70s after all.
When Stevie Wonder was made aware of the video he was shocked, “My first thought was that these people must hate me in order for them to do that to my songs. I am a national treasure and musical genius and they desecrated me. These people must be stopped and held accountable. Being blind my hearing is much more acute. I can find value in almost any sound but not that. It was an assault on my senses. After my assistant described the visuals to me, I am glad I am blind so I did not have to look at it as well.”
As authorities were investigating the matter, they uncovered other Cher medleys as well. There is a Beatles medley featuring Cher, Tina Turner and Kate Smith. Then there is a Black Sabbath medley with Cher, Liberace and Charles Nelson Reilly. “The deeper we dug, the more atrocities we found” said an unnamed official for Amnesty International. “I have been doing this for 30 years and this is the worst I have ever seen. My investigators were crying, vomiting and breaking down while watching these medleys.”
