Cat Stevens Detained After Jokingly Threatening to ‘Blow Up’ Airplane Bathroom

When you gotta go, you gotta go. And that’s something musician Cat Stevens knows all too well.

1970’s singer/songwriter Cat Stevens caused a major incident on a recent flight, when he chose the wrong words to describe his intestinal discomfort.

Stevens, who converted to Islam and now goes under the name Yusuf Islam, was on a flight from London to Dubai when he was stricken with major stomach distress.

Islam joked to a fellow passenger that he was about to ‘blow up’ the bathroom and to stay away from that side of the plane. The passenger, Dan Hornstein, alerted flight attendants immediately.

Flight attendants kicked open the bathroom door and found Yusuf on the bowl taking care of business. When Islam resisted, flight attendant Cheryl Olinick tased Islam on his testicles.

Islam later explained to police that he was joking, and that he was going to ‘stink up the bathroom with his bowel movement.’ Nothing more.

Ms. Olinick commented “Oh Dear, I love Cat Stevens. ‘Peace Train’, ‘Morning Has Broken’, ‘Moonshadow’, I love those songs. But he doesn’t look like he did in the 70’s. He was so cute and now he kinda fits the description of  someone that might blow up an airplane for real. He shouldn’t joke like that.”
