Bruce Springsteen Releases “Born in the USA”!

BORN-IN-THE-USA-17

On this day June 4, 1984, Bruce Springsteen released the classic album “Born in the USA”.

It is a quintessential Rock n Roll album that captured the anger and bitterness seething beneath the surface of Reagan-era America. And we don’t even know what quintessential means.

Born in the USA produced 13 top-10 hit singles, which is odd because there are only 12 songs on the album. Born in the U.S.A. became Springsteen’s most commercially successful album and one of the highest-selling records ever, having sold 30 billion copies. It has also been cited by critics as one of the greatest albums of all time. The album received a nomination for Album of the Year at the 1985 Grammy Awards, but was beaten out by Kajagoogoo.

Bruce Springsteen’s butt double

“Cover Me” was originally written as a disco song for Donna Summer. The original title was “Cover Me With Your Love Goo”, However, Springsteen’s manager Jon Landau advised him to keep it for himself and change the title. Good advice, as the song was released as a single and hit No. 7 on the Billboard Chart.

Most people know the video for “Dancing in the Dark” features a young Courteney Cox busting out some highly embarrassing dance moves, but less well known is that the video was directed by Brian De Palma — just a year after the release of his masterpiece, “Scarface.”

Did you know, that for the famous cover photo, taken by Annie Leibowitz, Bruce had a “butt double”. It turns out the actual butt used for the cover is not Bruce Springsteen’s butt, it is actually E Street Band member Steven Van Zandt’s butt, who happened to work his way through college as a successful butt model.  *BTW Is her name Leibowitz or Leibovitz or Lipschitz?
