Billy Gibbons Beard Stuck in Zipper! Authorities in Luckenbach, Texas successfully assisted Billy Gibbons in escaping a zipper entrapment Tuesday. The Luckenbach Fire Department reports it was dispatched at approximately 10:17 a.m. Tuesday to a private residence on a report of a beard zipper entrapment.

It turns out the subject in question was Guitarist Billy Gibbons of the band ZZ Top. Gibbons got his beard stuck in his pants zipper and was unable to free himself. It is unclear how this happened.

Prior to arrival, Fire Chief Wayne Pulley took command of the situation and requested mutual aid from other law enforcement agencies. Once on scene, Pulley and other responders verified that a single victim was trapped by his own zipper and began extraction efforts. The jaws of life were used.

Approximately one hour later, Gibbons was extricated and care was transferred to EMS staff on scene. Billy was treated on scene before being airlifted to Austin to receive further treatment. The extent of the Gibbon’s injuries and current condition is unknown at this time.

Gibbons called Madhouse News to explain how the incident occurred. “I was on the toilet and playing the guitar. I dropped my guitar pick and bent over to get it. Then I finished my business, zipped up and tried to stand up. But I couldn’t, I was stuck. It all happened so fast, it is a blur. I was in a lot of pain but was able to dial 911. It was very embarrassing.

Fire Chief Wayne Pulley commented, “It was a real mess. The beard was caught in the zipper, but it also was wrapped around his twigs and berries. I am not sure what he was up to, but the frank was on top of the beans. We used the jaws of life and some scissors and we were able to free him.”
