At this point The audience erupted in applause, some out of genuine admiration, others out of sheer disbelief. One attendee was overheard asking, “Isn’t that the guy that wrote the songs”.

A little known fact is that Barry wrote many songs. He wrote jingles such as State Farm, Stuck on bandaids and even the theme song to American Bandstand. However, Barry did not write ,“I Write The Songs”. As a matter of fact, All of his biggest hits were written by others. “Mandy” was written by someone else and was originally called “Brandy”. “Weekend in New England” written by Randy Edelman. “Looks Like We Made It”? Nope. “Can’t Smile Without You”? Not a chance. Basically It turns out the only hit that Barry actually did write is the insufferable “Copacabana”.

Be that as it may, Manilow did have a hand in creating the new fashion line. “I picked the sweat shop in China all by myself” said Barry. “The beauty of this line is that it can be worn in the boardroom, the bath house or at the Copa”.
