Art Garfunkel & John Oates Join Forces To Record Album and Tour
Singers Art Garfunkel & John Oates have long taken a backseat to their more popular partners, but no longer. The pair have joined forces to form a ‘Second banana’ band, if you will.
Oates shared the spotlight with Daryl Hall and Garfunkel was paired with Paul Simon. As singers, songwriters and incredible talents, Simon and Hall overshadowed their partners. Garfunkel and Oates were pushed to the back, but no more. The duo is taking back the spotlight.
“It seemed like a natural pairing” said Oates. “Only a handful of people in the world share our pain. I for one was sick of being called ‘The Other Guy’. That is why I made it my business to learn the other guy’s name in Wham. Did you know besides George Michael, the other guy’s name was Andrew Ridgeley!? Yes now you know, never call him the other guy again.”

“We met at an open mic in Nashville” said Garfunkel. “We performed ‘She’s Gone’ & ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’. It sounded great and then we said, hey we should team up. We struggled over the name for a bit, I wanted “Garfunkel Brothers’ and he wanted ‘Oates n Honey’. We even thought about ‘Second Bananas”, but settled on Garfunkel & Oates. To keep it fair though, we will change the name of the band every year. Next year we will be Oates & Garfunkel.”
The pair have gotten along swimmingly and there have been no squabbles or bickering. Garfunkel said, “Everything has been great”. “It reminds me of when Simon and I were just starting. Everything is fun. I am tall and have great hair just like Daryl Hall and John is small and funny like Paul. We are wearing matching turtle necks, mustaches and writing songs. It’s like it’s 1966 again.”
The duo has recorded an album, “Parsley, Sage, Garfunkel & Oates”. The album contains new songs, and reworked classics from the pairs illustrious career. Garfunkel wrote a new song called F*ck Paul Simon. There is a folk acoustic version of “Maneater”, an EDM version of “Sounds of Silence” and a Heavy metal version of “Kiss on My List”. The album ends with an a capella version of “Bridge Over Troubled Water”. “The man sings like an angel” said Oates as he wiped away a tear. We smell Grammy!
