A Tribute to Neil Peart
The world lost another legend. Neil Peart, the incredible, amazing, fantastic drummer for ‘Rush’ has died at the age of 67. Rush fans all over the world are heartbroken, as their beloved ‘Professor’ is gone.
Tributes and accolades are pouring in. Social media is overwhelmed. It is beautiful to see music fans from all genres, Ramones fans, Sabbath fans, even Carpenters fans, showing an outpouring of love and respect for ‘The Man’.
Peart took drumming to a whole new level, combining the rock stylings of Keith Moon & John Bonham with the techniques of Jazz legends such as Gene Krupa and Buddy Rich. As if supplying wildly imaginative drum parts and being the greatest drummer in the world wasn’t enough, he wrote the lyrics as well.
Peart was known as ‘The Professor’ because we all learned from him. He was a drummer’s drummer and respected by all. Every drummer to pick up a stick and every guy to ever play air drums owes some gratitude to Neil.
“Neil is the most air-drummed-to drummer of all time,” former Police drummer Stewart Copeland said. Who hasn’t at one time in their life air drummed to ‘Limelight’.
The world was a better place for having Neil in it, and his music delighted millions. Now that he is gone, the world is a little darker and a little sadder. But tonight let’s cheers to Neil as a legion of sh*tty cover bands attempt to play ‘Tom Sawyer’!
