Suge Knight, the hulking impresario behind Death Row Records, has apparently always been in trouble. Knight’s real name is Marion Hugh Knight Jr. His nickname Suge is short for Sugar Bear. His cousin, Dominique Thompson, recounted the shocking events of Marion’s childhood for us.

“It all started with Suge taking other kid’s lunch money at school” said Dominique. “He even took the teacher’s lunch money. Suge shook down all the kid’s in the neighborhood. When 2 kids refused to pay, Suge ran over them with his Big Wheel. When a kid refused to let Suge copy his homework, Suge dangled the kid by his ankles from the top of the jungle gym.”

Dominique continued “When Suge was 8, he was allowed to play on the High School football team because he was so big. He was 6’5″” and 250 lbs at age 10 and he had a full beard. He was literally the football team. Suge played every position and was the entire offensive line. He once put an entire team on the injured list. Other teams often forfeited rather than face Suge.”

“Suge once ripped a car door off with his bare hands and beat up an entire family at age 9. I mean the father, a grown man of 45 beaten up by a 9 year old. It was crazy. Suge even beat up the family dog. The family had to move after that. I even once saw Suge beat a cop with a whiffle ball bat. The boy was bad.”

Suge went on to become the co-founder and CEO of Death Row Records, and was a central figure in gangsta rap’s commercial success. In September 2018, Knight pled no contest to voluntary manslaughter in a fatal 2015 hit-and-run, and was sentenced to 28 years in prison. He is eligible for parole in October 2034.
