Dave Grohl

Happy Birthday

David Eric Grohl
January 14, 1969
Warren, Ohio

Dave Grohl went from drummer to one of the greatest bands in the world, to singer/guitarist and frontman to another of the greatest bands in the world. Not an easy task.

As a teen, Grohl immersed himself in the world of Punk. At 13, Grohl and his sister spent the summer in Evanston, Illinois, at their cousin Tracy's house. Tracy introduced them to punk rock by taking the pair to shows by a variety of punk bands. His first concert was Naked Raygun at The Cubby Bear in Chicago in 1982 when he was 13 years old. Grohl recalled, "From then on we were totally punk.

During his developing years as a drummer, Grohl cited John Bonham as his greatest influence, and eventually had Bonham's three-rings symbol tattooed on his wrist.

Grohl joined Nirvana in 1990 and 'Nevermind' was released September 24, 1991. The album became a huge unexpected breakout smash and soared to number one on the charts. 'Nevermind' ushered in the grunge movement, and Kurt Cobain was silently elected as the spokesperson of a generation. 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' was their rallying cry.
Their next and final album 'In Utero', released in September 1993 debuted at #1 on the charts.

On Friday, April 8, 1994, Cobain was found dead of a self-inflicted shotgun wound to the head at his home in Seattle. Many conspiracy theories exist, but none have been proven.

Following Cobain's death, Grohl retreated, unsure of where to go and what to do with himself. He was invited to be Tom Petty's drummer, but declined as he had bigger plans in mind.

On July 4th 1995, The debut album by The Foo Fighters was released. The album received commercial and critical success. Grohl played all the instruments himself. 'The Colour and the Shape' released in 1997 contained the hits "Monkey Wrench", "My Hero", and "Everlong".

Grohl and the Foo Fighters were at the top of their game from then on, earning the title as the reigning Rock n Roll supergroup. Thanks for the music Dave!

Happy Birthday Dave Grohl!
